Air Cleaner Troubleshooting

  1. Make sure the furnace fan is operating in order to test the electronic air cleaner.
  2. Make sure the pre filters are clean for the electronic air cleaner (usually ¼” thick).
  3. Make sure the large cells are clean for the electronic air cleaner (usually between 4-5” thick).
  4. If either the pre filters or the large cells are dirty follow manufacturers instructions on how to clean their filters (usually monthly cleanings required for optimum operation)
  5. Make sure the media filter is clean and replace if necessary.

Once you have completed the checklist and your electronic air cleaner or media filter still does not operate properly then proceed to contact either your builder or E-M Air Systems directly.

Air Conditioner Troubleshooting

  1. Make sure power is on at the panel for your air conditioner (power should be on for at least 24 hours prior to starting)
  2. Make sure your thermostat switch is set for COOL and is not set any lower than 22C.
  3. Make sure your furnace filter is clean.
  4. Make sure your humidifier is turned off and the bypass is completely closed.
  5. Close your basement vents so that the air bypasses these openings and the air is forced up to the other floors.
  6. If you notice ice build-up at the furnace or outside by the outdoor unit, chances are the furnace filter is dirty or the outdoor unit is dirty (or both).

Once you have completed the checklist and you still don’t have cooling then proceed to call either your builder or contact us directly.

Fireplace Troubleshooting

  1. Make sure the gas shut off to the fireplace is in the open position.
  2. Make sure the gas valve is in the open position (handle parallel to the pipe).
  3. Make sure the pilot is lit.
  4. Make sure the on/off switch is in the on position and/or the temperature is turned up on the thermostat.
  5. Make sure the batteries to the remote control and the receiver are changed.
  6. Make sure there is power to the fireplace is on in order to operate the blower.

Once you have completed the checklist and your fireplace still does not operate then proceed to contact either your builder or E-M Air Systems directly.

Furnace Troubleshooting

  1. Make sure the power is on at the breaker panel for your furnace (should be labeled by your electrician).
  2. Make sure the power is on at the furnace switch (usually located at the furnace up high or close to the stairs and is in the form of a light switch).
  3. Make sure the blower door is on properly and shut tight on the furnace (newer furnaces have blower door interlock switches)
  4. Make sure the furnace drain is not kinked or blocked.
  5. Make sure the gas shut off to the furnace in the open position (handle parallel to the pipe).
  6. Make sure your thermostat is in the heat mode and set to above room temperature.
  7. Make sure your furnace filter is clean.

Once you have completed the checklist and you still don’t have heat then proceed to contact either your builder or E-M Air Systems directly.

Humidifier Troubleshooting

  1. Make sure your humidifier humidistat is turned onto the proper percentage.
  2. Make sure your humidifier airflow bypass is open.
  3. Make sure your humidifier pad has been changed.
  4. Make sure your water tap is open.
  5. Make sure your furnace fan and heating are operating when testing the humidifier.
  6. Make sure the water flows down the drain (panel type humidifiers)
  7. Make sure the drum has water in it and the float assembly shuts off the water at the proper level (drum type humidifiers only).
  8. Make sure your flues are shut tight on all wood burning fireplaces.

Once you have completed the checklist and you still don’t have the desired humidity (usually around 35%) then proceed to contact either your builder or E-M Air Systems directly.
